Wildman Lake Lodge
The safety, comfort and success of our hunters are our primary concerns. Unlike most Alaska guides, whose base camp is a pup tent, we have established a first class Alaska lodge right in the heart of the Alaska Peninsula wilderness. This is not a rundown rented shack in a native village, shared by two or three outfitters. Wildman Lake Lodge is a modern facility with a professional kitchen, spacious dining room and comfortable “Trapper’s Den” overlooking Ocean River and the Aleutian Mountain Range. Wildman Lake Lodge has eight guest rooms with showers and bathrooms, full time heat, electricity, and satellite communication including Wi-Fi, making Wildman the ultimate Alaska hunting lodge, serving as base camp for our hunts. Most hunting is done from remote spike camps.
From Wildman Lake Lodge, we access more than 1.5 million acres of Alaska’s finest Trophy brown Bear and Moose habitat. Four jet boats and four specially-equipped bush aircraft are based at the lodge and are used exclusively to transport our clients, gear and supplies to and from our strategically located spike camps. These camps are checked regularly by radio or satellite phone and serviced as needed by our experienced lodge based Wildman Bush Pilots.
Wildman Lake Lodge was established before Alaska Statehood; by legendary, some called notorious, Alaska Guide Ron Hayes. The lodge was acquired in 1983 by Master Guide, Keith Johnson who operated purchased by Gary "Butch" and Kathy King in 1996.
Three meals are prepared in Wildman’s spacious commercial kitchen by our professional staff. Breads, pastrie, desserts and ice creams are all homemade at Wildman. Hunting camp entres are prepared here as well, then vacuum packed and frozen for the hunts. Wildman provides quality whole foods for its hunts. Yes, real eggs and bacon, lodge prepared meals and potable water are all flown to spike camps.
Wildman’s heated and carpeted dining room features several large windows for a 270 degree view of the surounding country side. The knotty pine interior is adorned with several fish & game mounts. Up to 24 guests and guides are seated at handmade Douglas fir dining tables where meals are served on fine Bavarian china which bear the Wildman Lake Lodge logo. Pub tables provide more casual seating.
Wildman's Chef and Professional Kitchen Staff will treat you to delicious meals, not only while you are at the lodge, but hearty meals are vacuum packed, frozen for the hunting camps. Yes, real food like Roast Chicken, Meat Loaf, Lasagna and Roast Pork.
We do not feed you freeze dry food on our hunts. Real bacon, eggs, sandwiches and food you can hunt on, not just survive on.
Guests enjoying the comfortable Trapper's Den while at Wildman Lake Lodge. Overlooking Ocean River at the base of 8,000 foot glacier shrouded Mt. Veniaminof, brown bear can be spotted right from the lodge. Guests can relax before and after their hunt, with the piece of mind that you have the back up of a substantial facility while you are in spike camp and a port in the storm, should the Aleutian weather take a turn for the worse during your hunt, then redeploy when the weather passes.
Clean, heated and carpeted guest rooms are available for hunting and fishing couples. King rooms have private bathroom and hot showers. Non-hunting lodge guests are welcome during our spring and fall brown bear hunts. During the moose season we have a high occupancy of fishermen at the lodge so space is limited.
Twin Bedrooms are available in both single room with private bath/shower or in two bedroom family cabins with bath/shower during our bear hunts. During the September moose season, we have a high occupancy of fishermen at the lodge, so cabin space is limited. Weather port or tent frames are available for transient moose hunters.
